Troubleshooting Review Imports

Having issues importing reviews into Junip? This guide covers the most common problems and how to fix them.

Reviews not appearing after import

If your import completed but reviews aren't showing on your site:

  1. Wait a few minutes β€” Large imports (1,000+ reviews) can take 5-15 minutes to fully process.

  2. Clear your cache β€” Add ?junip-break-cache=true to your product URL on your storefront to force a refresh. (ie http://storename.com/products/product-name?junip-break-cache=true)

  3. Check review status β€” Go to Manage Reviews and filter by "Imported". Reviews may be set to "Pending" by default. Publish them to make them visible.

  4. Verify the product exists β€” Imported reviews must match a product in your Junip catalog. Go to Products > Catalog to confirm the product is synced.

Product matching failures

The most common import issue. Reviews fail to match when the product identifier in your CSV doesn't match what's in Junip.

How Junip matches products:

  1. Shopify Product ID

  2. Product Handle (e.g., blue-widget)

To fix matching errors:

  1. Compare your import file's product identifiers against Junip's catalog (which is effectively the same as your Shopify catalog)

  2. Update your import file to use the exact values

  3. Re-import the corrected file

πŸ’‘ Tip: Product handles are case-sensitive. Blue-Widget β‰  blue-widget

CSV formatting errors

Error

Cause

Fix

"Missing required column"

Column header doesn't match expected name

"Invalid date format"

Dates not in YYYY-MM-DD format

Reformat dates in Excel/Sheets before importing

"Row skipped"

Empty required fields (rating, body, email)

Fill in missing data or remove incomplete rows

Only 3 reviews showing in preview

Normal behavior

We only preview 3 rows β€” the full file will import

❗️ Important: Save your file as UTF-8 CSV. Other encodings cause special characters to break. This automatically happens with Google Sheets.

Reviews showing as "Unverified Buyer"

Imported reviews only get a "Verified Buyer" badge if Junip can match the reviewer's email to an order in Shopify.

There's no way to manually mark imported reviews as verified β€” this protects the integrity of the badge.

Fewer reviews imported than expected

Check the import summary for skipped rows. Common reasons:

  • Duplicate reviews β€” Same email + product + rating already exists

  • Missing required fields β€” Rating, body is blank

  • Invalid product β€” Product identifier doesn't match any product in your catalog

To see exactly which rows failed: re-run the import with a small batch (50 reviews) and note which ones don't appear.

Import completed but count is not what was expected

If you imported 500 reviews but only see 400:

  1. Some may be store reviews (not product reviews) β€” check the Store Reviews tab

  2. Some may be duplicates that were skipped
